Wire Gauge (AWG) Calculator

Assists the aviation mechanic (A&P) in determining the correct wire size (AWG)

AWG Calculator

IMPORTANT NOTICE: THIS *NÃrummy royalO* CALCULATOR IS A GENERAL PURPOSE YARN GAUGE CALCULATOR.

IT IS INTENDED EXCLUSIVELY FOR WIRING FAA REGISTERED AIRCRAFT, LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING FAA APPROVED VOLTAGES: 14VDC, 28VDC, 115VAC AND 200VAC.

This application assists the aircraft mechanic (A&P) in determining the correct American Wire Gauge (AWG) wire size for given conditions in accordance with the procedures outlined in FAA publication AC 43-13 1B (Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices). - Aircraft Inspection and Repair), Chapter 11.

Conditions include circuit length, current, voltage, wire temperature (known or estimated), and derating factors for altitude and wire bundle size/load percentage.

The application also contains utilities that allow the aircraft mechanic to determine the following parameters without practical use of the AC 43-13 (when field/shop conditions make this impractical). The figures are referenced:

- Maximum wire length (standard temperature).

-- Input parameters: circuit voltage, current, current flow and AWG.

-- Output: L1.

-- Ref.: AC 43-13 1B, Fig. 11-2/3

- Maximum Current (standard temperature).

-- Input parameters: circuit voltage, current flow, wire length and AWG.

-- Output: Maximum current.

-- Ref.: AC 43-13 1B, Fig. 11-2/3

- Altitude reduction factor.

-- Input parameter: Maximum Altitude.

-- Output: Altitude reduction factor.

-- Ref: AC 43-13 1B, Figura 11-5

- Package reduction factor.

-- Input parameters: thread count and charging percentage

-- Output: Packet reduction factor.

-- Ref: AC 43-13 1B, Fig 11-

- IMAX (high temperature).

-- Input parameters: ambient temperature, conductor temperature rating and AWG.

- Output: IMAX.

-- Ref: AC 43-13 1B, Fig 11-4a/b

- Package builder (NEW!)

-- Input parameters: number of wires, AWG sizes, wire currents, maximum altitude, ambient temperature, wire rating, load factor

-- Output: IMAX package (reduced for package and altitude) with table for IMAX by wire.

-- Ref: AC 43-13 1B, Fig 11-4a/b

When a graph plots data due to input/output parameters exceeding the graph limits, the data is extrapolated and an appropriate warning ("** extrapolated data") is shown.
